IV Assistant Robot - The Team - Bhim Khanal

bhim khanal

Bhim Khanal, resident of Haslett MI, is student at MSU majoring in Electrical Engineering. He was primarily involved in research and development of the electrical system in the IV Assistant robot. With his prior experience of working with microcontrollers at Nexteer Automotive, he determined electrical design specifications for the microcontroller to satisfy the system requirements. He designed the schematic for the entire electrical system in the robot and was also responsible for design and development of multi-microcontroller communication system. He determined type of communication protocol to be used with all microcontrollers in the system and developed methodology for implementing the protocol. He also assisted Vincent in implementing the microcontroller communication is software using Arduino IDE.

Bhim's contribution for the project also includes his research on the UWB modules during the early development phase of the project. With his research, he was able to come up with the circuit needed to communicate with these modules. He also developed a procedure to program Arduino microcontrollers to establish communication between the module and the microcontroller. During system integration, Bhim fabricated circuit for the obstacle avoidance system and routed wires for the power supply circuit as well as ultrasonic sensors. When the project encountered problem of communication with Arduino Due and the Motor Controller Board, he came up with a solution of using level shifting circuit which ultimately solved the problem. Throughout the project he always stayed at the forefront

Besides his technical role, Bhim was also in charge of preparing and formatting all the presentations made throughout the project. He made sure that all team members contributed towards the presentation. He also played a vital role in making sure that all the documents and presentations are proofread and formatted neatly.
