We are very excited about opportunities to improve and expand upon our ideas One idea was an autonomous charging system that the robot would go to when the battery gets low. This system would use three charging poles that the robot would push itself into and make an electromechanical connection to for charging the LiPo battery. To improve the performance of the obstacle avoidance system, more sensors would be needed to cover the system's field of view better and room for 15 or more can be allocated to accomplish this. Lastly, finding or designing an adequate microcontroller to handle all these sensors, plus the motors and displays, would simplify the design by decreasing the number of parts and potentially decreasing the power consumption. Adding a Human Interfacing System, waterproofing the wristband, and adding network connectivity are all potential improvements for the project as well.
During the course of the project, we had many people, including ourselves, suggest different applications for the tracking base. With minimum modifications to the base, the robot could be a coat rack butler, luggage bag, shopping cart, or a even golf club caddy. Of course, many other applications exist, but we look forward to the challenge of discovering them and improving the robot beyond this course.
