Research

Power systems that withstand, adapt, and recover.

Our research unifies reliability, resilience, stability, security, and intelligent control across transmission systems, distribution networks, microgrids, and cyber-physical infrastructures.

Core themes

Four connected research areas.

The laboratory develops theory, computational methods, controls, and experimental platforms that move ideas from analysis to field-relevant validation.

Theme 01

Power-system resilience and reliability

Integrated assessment of adequacy, dynamic performance, and recovery under extreme weather, cyber-physical attacks, cascading failures, and equipment contingencies.

Theme 02

Inverter-dominated grids and microgrids

Stability analysis, control, reliability, protection, and resilience of systems with high penetrations of inverter-based resources.

Theme 03

DER aggregation and grid services

Coordinated operation of solar, storage, flexible loads, and virtual power plants for voltage regulation, frequency support, demand response, and restoration.

Theme 04

AI and cyber-physical energy systems

Machine learning, digital twins, cloud control, secure automation, and operator decision support for complex power grids and emerging large loads.

Theme 05

Real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop

Multi-timeframe and multi-fidelity simulation with PMUs, protective relays, controllers, and communication systems in closed-loop test environments.

Theme 06

Transmission capacity and grid modernization

Dynamic line rating, congestion mitigation, storage as a transmission asset, expansion planning, and risk-aware infrastructure investment.

AI-assisted grid monitoring, cybersecurity, and operator decision support

E-RESILEINCY

From the lab to practice.

We develop models that preserve the physical meaning of power-system behavior, combine them with data-driven tools when they add value, and validate the resulting methods under realistic operating conditions.

  • Physics-based and data-driven modeling
  • Risk, uncertainty, and interdependency analysis
  • Optimization, learning, and adaptive control
  • Real-time and hardware-in-the-loop validation
