New Composite Cutoff Saw Arrives to CMSC

In July 2017, CMSC took possession of a new precision composite sectioning saw, the Extec Labcut 5000. This unit can accommodate composite panels up to 2 x 2 feet, is fully enclosed to contain cutting fluid overspray, and is computer numerically controlled to make multiple, automated cuts.  The cutting blade is a water rinsed diamond cutoff wheel with recirculating filtration of the cutting fluid to remove debris.  The Labcut 5000 yields smooth cut faces ideal for harvesting composite test specimens.  Contact Dr. Larry Drzal, drzal@egr.msu.edu, if you wish to access the Labcut 5000.
