Dark green square "Support the Mechanical Engineering Department"Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University. It is with great enthusiasm that I join an esteemed faculty that takes tremendous pride in advancing the mechanical engineering profession. Accompanied by a reputation as one of the premier mechanical engineering departments in the nation, the department has a long tradition of academic excellence and a rich history of transformative advances in science and engineering.

It is a very exciting time in history to be a part of the engineering profession as technological advances are rapidly changing how we interact with each other and the environment. I am strongly committed to maintaining a vibrant culture of scholarship and innovation within the department where students experience rapid intellectual growth and faculty energetically exchange creative ideas to expand the knowledge base in science, engineering, and technology.

MSU Mechanical Engineering offers undergraduate students a rigorous core curriculum of fundamental engineering science and mechanics in conjunction with a rich design and manufacturing experience. The curriculum is broad, and students have many different opportunities for specialization upon graduation. Graduate students have a unique opportunity to engage in exciting fundamental and applied research that aims to significantly advance the scientific and technological state-of-the-art. The current undergraduate student enrollment is approximately 1450, and the graduate student enrollment is 130.  The Department of Mechanical Engineering has a vibrant culture that strives to continuously improve upon the quality of our education, research, and outreach programs.

Please take some time to explore the many educational and research experiences the Mechanical Engineering Department has to offer. We welcome in-person visitations to showcase the growing excitement we have for the department. While challenges abound, the future holds many exciting opportunities for students and faculty to work collectively for a better tomorrow.
