The Composite Materials and Structures Center is equipped with a United Testing Systems (UTS) model SFM-20 load frame.
This unit has interchangable load cells with capacities ranging from 1 to 20,000 lbs.
Sample deformation can be measured via a deflectometer, strain gage(s), biaxial extensometer or a non-contact laser extensometer, as appropriate for the sample geometry.
The SFM-20 is also equpped with a temperature-controlled test chamber.
The following list is a general summary of the various tests that are performed at the CMSC:
ASTM D790 - 07 (e1)
Standard Test Method for Flexural Properties of Unreinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials
ASTM D882 - 09
Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting
