Dr. Tan Serves as Guest Editor of IEEE Control Systems Magazine
Dr. Tan and Dr. Ram Iyer,
Associate Professor in Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech
University, are guest editors for a special issue of IEEE Control Systems
Magazine (February 2009) that is focused on modeling and control
hysteresis. Hysteresis is a nonlinear phenomenon that is both intellectually stimulating and
engineering-relevant, and it arises in diverse disciplines ranging from physics to biology, from material science to mechanics, and from
electronics to economics. The special issue is intended to expose the broader controls community to the
fascinating subject of hysteresis. It contains articles that describe hysteresis in interesting domains, such as economic systems and soil-water
dynamics, as well as articles that explore the origin of hysteresis and control methods for handling hysteresis.

Dr. Tan also actively serves the controls community in other capacities, including serving as an associate editor for Automatica, a top journal in systems and controls, and a member of the IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board.
