Dr. Bush and her lab recently were videoed by the Big10 Network. They were videoing the lab for a commercial to air during Michigan State football games. This video will be focused on Dr. Bush's work with device design for persons with disabilities.
Dr. Bush's lab attends SB3C conference at Seven Springs Resort in Pennsylvania. Dr. Bush intrduced the Savio Woo award winner Dr. Rita Patterson. Josh Drost presented his work on hand function. Justin Scott gave a poster on thigh and buttock soft tissue properties and the effects of body position on them.
Dr. Bush’s lab prepares for poster presentations for two conferences. One is the Mid Sure Undergraduate conference at Michigan State University and the other is the International Society of Biomechanics - American Society of Biomechanics meeting in Calgary.
Detroit News interviews and published an article about Dr. Bush and the engineers who helped create the brace for Nick Ward to play with his hand injury.
Dr. Bush's team asked to help develop an protective brace for Nick Ward after he injured his hand playing basketball. Dr Bush's group scanned Nick Ward's hand so we could develop a custom device that fit every contour of his hand. We also collected force data so we could identify the type of loading the device might see during a game. Since Nick was not able to handle a ball right after surgery, Xavier Tillman filled in an conducted all the ball handling.
Then Larry Drzal and his team printed palmar and dorsal shield to match the hand contours and Tom Pence's group ran a stress analysis on the structure with the applied force data.
Nick wore the hand shield during the Big 10 tournament!
Josh Drost selected as the Fitch Beach Award winner for Mechanical Engineering! This endowed award recognizes the most outstanding graduate researchers within the College of Engineering. Each department nominates one PhD student, and awards are based on a review of students’ academic and professional records and on an oral presentation of their research. Congrats to Josh - with this award, he receives $500 cash and a medal.
