Justin Scott is researching pressure injuries occurring from wheelchair use. The goal of this research is to prevent pressure injuries in wheelchair users by redistributing the loads while seated. A wheelchair was developed that allows the user to frequently change seated positions. This reduces the load in certain body regions and changes the load frequently so that the user does not experience pressure in the same area. A pressure mapping system was used to find effective seating positions that alleviate the pressure in specific areas. Rotating through these positions will reduce the effects of long-term sitting such as pressure injuries. User feedback on the accessibility and user friendliness of the device is now being gathered.
