Biography

Dr. Phil Sands received his PhD in Educational Psychology and Education Technology (EPET) from Michigan State University in 2021. His research interests include computer science education, student motivation, and issues of broadening participation for marginalized student groups in computing. Prior to joining the faculty at MSU, Phil spent 7 years at Purdue University as a K-12 educational outreach coordinator for the Department of Computer Science, and 7 years teaching math and computer science at the secondary level in Michigan and Maryland. Phil enjoys playing the guitar, going on long nature hikes with his wife, Gina, and dog, Rocco, playing board games, and is an avid reader.
