Cecil Granville Sharpe Jr.

Cecil Granville Sharpe Jr. (BS Mech Egr ’41), 91, of Novi, Mich., died June 4, 2011. He was born to the late Cecil Granville and Margaret Sharpe on Nov. 6, 1919, in Detroit, Mich.

Granville had a distinguished 42-year career with Chrysler Corporation, working in many engineering and management roles, retiring in 1988 as staff executive in the engineering group. He continued to work for several years as a consulting engineer on environmental audits for Chrysler and thermoelectric and heat exchanger technology in the automotive industry.
He was a life member of the Senior Men’s Club of Birmingham, participating in a variety of committees and activities over the years. A registered professional engineer in Michigan, Sharpe was also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and ASME. He also served as past director and general chairman of the Detroit Metro Science Fair and as an engineering mentor with the Berkshire Middle School.

He married Barbara Spencer Baldwin in 1945. After residing in Detroit, then Los Angeles, they returned to Michigan. They celebrated more than 57 years of marriage before Barbara’s death. He married Hildegard Crawford Smiley in 2004, moving to the Fox Run community in Novi, Mich. Hildegard also preceded him in death.

Sharpe is survived by three children: Cecily (Kitty) Hughes of Kalamazoo, Mich., Thomas Sharpe of Waterford, Mich., and Jeffrey Sharpe of Stone Mountain, Ga. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. His sister, Janet Cavell, preceded him in death.
