Robert (Bob) Rowland

Robert (Bob) Rowland (BS Mech Egr ’50) of Wacousta, Mich., died March 12, 2015. He was 92.

He was born in Wacousta on Aug. 14, 1922, and lived there until 1985, when he moved to Augusta, Ga.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1950.

Upon graduation he started working for Tranter Manufacturing. He moved to Georgia with the company and retired in 1991, after 38 years.

In 1946 he married Mary Martha Morris of Grand Ledge and had three children whom now survive him: Katherine (Jack) Weber, Bruce (Jan) Rowland and Evan (Su) Rowland. Survived also by his wife of 29 years, Doris; sister, Betty (Richard) Rosier; grandchildren: Nicole (Xander) Waites, Tiffany (Erik) Adams, Chad (Kayti) Rowland and Brent Rowland. Additional family members include stepchildren, Charles Hardman and Laurie (CL) Rose, as well as step-granddaughters, Ashley and Meg Hiestand.

During his years in Wacousta he was a member of the Wacousta Methodist Church, Wacousta Masonic Lodge (lifetime member of 70 years) and served many years in the Boys Scouts. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, American Legion, Scottish Rite Mason, and he was active in Scouting and a Silver Beaver recipient.

Memorial services were April 6 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home in Grand Ledge, with burial in Wacousta Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Grand Ledge Boy Scouts or American Cancer Society.
