Retired Professor Martin "Glen" Keeney

Retired computer science professor Martin "Glen" Keeney of East Lansing died June 9 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan with this family by his side. He was 87. 

He was born Feb. 12, 1928, to Dwight F. and Irma S. Keeney in Omaha, Neb. 

He spent two years serving his country in the U.S. Navy. 

Keeney taught computer science at MSU from 1956 to 1991. 

An avid MSU sports fan, he was especially fond of the Spartan hockey program. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Iowa State University, and a PhD from MSU. 

Survivors include his children, Brian and Vivian Keeney; son-in-law Rick Wurfel; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Merna Keeney and their children Karen Clark, Mark Keeney and Mike Keeney and their families of Memphis, Tenn.; sister Frances Hentz of Prosperity, S.C.; brother-in-law Carroll Witter of Des Moines, Iowa; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel; brother-in-law, Thad Hentz; his in-laws; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law and a nephew.

There will be no memorial service. Keeney donated his body to the MSU Willed Body Program.
