James Dykstra

James Dykstra (BS Civ Egr ’49) of Port Huron, Mich., died April 10, 2012, after a brief illness. He was 86.

He was born February 4, 1926, the son of Neil and Wilhelmina Dykstra, in St. Clair Shores, Mich. He grew up in Byron Center, Mich., and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946.

After graduating in 1949 from Michigan State University, he worked as a civil engineer with MDOT, other private engineering firms, and as county engineer in Arenac County until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Port Huron Schubert Men's Chorus and the Marysville Coin Club for many years.

He is survived by his children, Paula of Ypsilanti, Mich., Tom (Cara) of Arnot, Pa., William of Port Huron, Robert (Dianna) of Marysville, Mich., and Daniel (Keri) of Dewitt, Mich.; grandchildren, Kaylie and Emily Graham and Melissa Dykstra, all of Marysville; sisters, Ann (Rex) Clawson, Jeannette Voss, Nell Dempsey; and brother, John (Marilyn) Dykstra. His wife, Margaret, and brother, Louis, preceded him in death.
