Howard “Scott” J. Haselschwardt

Howard “Scott” J. Haselschwardt (BS Civ Egr ’79) of Charlevoix, Mich., died Aug. 25, 2014. He was 58.

He grew up in Chelsea, Mich., and graduated from high school in 1974. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University in 1979.

He moved to Wisconsin to work for the U.S. Forest Service, where he met Sarah Smith. They were married in Madison, Wis., in 1982 and settled in Charlevoix, where they raised two children. Haselschwardt began his career at Northwest Design Group, grew the company and later became the president and owner.

He held a pilot’s license, belonged to the Charlevoix flying club and enjoyed flying any chance he had. He was an avid hockey fan and player.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah; daughter, Sally, of Ann Arbor; son, Scotty, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; his parents, Howard and Agnes (Romsek) Haselschwardt, of Chelsea, and others.

Funeral was Aug. 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlevoix. More information is available through the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix.
