Edgar W. Butterline

Edgar W. Butterline (BS ELEC EGR ’58), North Brunswick, N.J., died July 7, 2016. He was 83.

He was born and raised in South River, N.J., and had lived in North Brunswick since 1967. 

A U.S. Navy veteran from the Korean War, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked for AT&T from 1958 to 1996, retiring as a network engineer. He then was employed as a technical consultant at Symmetricom, until finally retiring in 2001.

Dedicated to his profession, he worked with various communication standards groups at the U.S. Department of Commerce. A member of the Telephone Pioneers, he was a deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of New Brunswick.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Joan (DeHart); sons: Mark of Maynard, Mass., and Brett of Piscataway; grandchildren: Ryan, Hannah, William, Jake, and three nephews.

Funeral services were July 12 in North Brunswick, with burial in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
