Don Gordon Stormzand

Don Gordon Stormzand (BS Metallurgy ‘55) of Bradenton/Sarasota, Fla., died March 21. He was 82.

He was born June 24, 1932. He graduated from Grand Rapids South High School in 1951 and earned a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy engineering from Michigan State University in 1955.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as a captain after eight years of service. He worked for GM AC Spark Plug in Flint for 37 years as a senior manufacturing metallurgist and lived in Grand Blanc.

He and his wife of 61 years, Ann, retired and moved to Okemos, spending half their time in the Bradenton/Sarasota area.

He traveled to 14 countries appreciating the unique culture of each. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, the beaches, concerts, museums, performing arts, and golf. He was a dedicated volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

A memorial service was conducted April 4 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1031 S. Euclid Ave, in Sarasota. Donations may be made to the Tidewell Hospice House of Bradenton or First Congregational UCC Music.
