Ramani Narayan, University Distinguished Professor of chemical engineering and materials science, is among a group of 16 scientists selected to participate in a working group at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara, on the subject of marine debris.

The group is expected to meet four times over the next two years with the goal of producing peer-reviewed publications that significantly advance the scientific understanding of marine debris. The first meeting was held at the NCEAS facility in Santa Barbara, Calif., in March.

The goal of the working group is to construct a scientific assessment of marine debris, and to perform a comprehensive analysis on its large-scale ecological impacts on marine environments.
