Steven Foley to lead college’s Division of Engineering Computer Services (DECS)
A familiar face will lead MSU Engineering’s Division of Engineering Computer Services (DECS).
Steven Foley is the new DECS director. He replaces long-time director Jackie Carlson, who retired in January.
Foley joined the college in 2000 as a systems programmer. During the past 20 years, he has been part of the DECS team on Windows systems, linux/unix, insertion of new technologies and many other aspects of the services that DECS provides to the college and others on campus.
Engineering Dean Leo Kempel said Foley was selected from a strong group of applicants – something that is a testament to everyone in Spartan Engineering.
“I know with his leadership, DECS will continue to provide the best IT services possible,” Kempel added.
Foley said he is excited for the challenge.
“I look forward to the opportunity to provide support for research, instruction and computing security for those in our college,” Foley said.
DECS provides information technology services and support for the faculty, staff, students, and guests of the college. Fifteen full-time and part-time employees, along with a staff of student workers, offer assistance through the support office; hardware purchasing, repair, replacement and set-up; lab and classroom computing; and a list of other duties including remote access and security.
