MSU researcher to help shape the future of facial recognition
Michigan State University’s renowned biometrics expert will provide his expertise and insights to The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine as it initiates a study on the positive use and potential misuse of facial recognition technologies in the United States. The inaugural meeting will be in Washington, D.C., on July 7-8, 2022.
Anil Jain, University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, joins a distinguished panel of 14 high-level advisers who will review the capabilities and prospects of facial recognition technologies, along with the increasing concerns for governance.
Jain is recognized internationally for his success in the design and applications of pattern recognition and machine learning that focus on automatic fingerprint recognition and automatic face recognition. For his contributions to pattern recognition and biometrics, Jain was elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 2016.
