Engineering graduates honored with Board of Trustees Awards
Two Spartan Engineers were honored on Friday, Dec. 13, with a Board of Trustees’ Award for having the highest scholastic average at the close of their last semester at MSU.
Both received a 4.0 GPA and both graduated on Saturday, Dec. 14. They were part of the 17 students honored at the Dec. 13 Board of Trustees meeting.
The Spartan Engineers recognized for scholastic achievements are:
• Madelyn Hanton, a senior in environmental engineering and a member of the Honors College. She has served as a student assistant at the Michigan Department of Transportation, where she conducted environmental facility audits at 17 MDOT facilities statewide to ensure environmental compliance with state and federal regulations.
She plans to continue working for MDOT’s Environmental Services Section as a part of its Engineer Development Program. She is from Canton, Michigan.
• Ryan Simon, a senior in mechanical engineering with a biomedical concentration. Simon carried the Engineering banner during the commencement processional. At MSU, he was a student manager of computer-aided design for Infrastructure Planning and Facilities and helped maintain and update floor plans in campus buildings including FRIB and the apartments and townhouses at 1855 Place.
Simon has accepted a full-time position at Amway as an operations engineer, where he will help connect Amway’s plant operations with its machine shop. He is from St. Johns, Michigan.
