He replaces S. Patrick Walton, who is now the C. Robert and Kathryn M. Weir associate professor and associate chair for MSU’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.

Hinds has served as CoRe’s academic director since 2007.
He is an award-winning educator. In 2007, he received the Michigan State University Distinguished Academic Staff Award. His other honors include the College of Engineering Withrow Student Services in 2014, and he shared the Michigan State University Service Learning and Civic Engagement Award in 2012.
Hinds is active in the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE)’s First Year Programs Division. He served as the program chair for the 2017 First Year Engineering Experience (FYEE) Conference, Enhancing the First Year of Engineering Education, at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach in August, and
