University Distinguished Professor Anil Jain honored by IIT Kanpur
Anil Jain has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK). He is a University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at MSU.

It is the highest award given to IITK alumni for achievements of exceptional merit.
“I am grateful for the outstanding education that I received at IITK which has shaped my career,” Jain said. “Given that IITK has graduated a large number of outstanding scholars, entrepreneurs, and social activists, I am humbled by this recognition by my alma mater.”
Ceremonies are planned for Nov. 2 at the Institute Foundation Day in Kanpur.
Jain is a 1969 electrical engineering graduate of IITK, which has graduated highly respected experts including 15 National Academy of Engineering (NAE) members and five National Academy of Science (NAS) members.
Jain is internationally recognized for his research in pattern recognition, computer vision and biometrics. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
Among his many honors, he is an honorary professor at Tsinghua University and a WCU distinguished adjunct professor at Korea University. He has been recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, Humboldt Research Award, Fulbright fellowship, IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement award, IEEE W. Wallace McDowell award, IAPR King-Sun Fu Prize, IEEE ICDM Research Contribution award, IAPR Senior Biometric Investigator award, MSU Withrow Teaching Excellence award, and the MSU 2014 Innovator of the Year award.
He is a Fellow of the ACM, IEEE, AAAS, IAPR, and SPIE.
