new faculty & academic leadership

The College of Engineering has added more than 75 new faculty members in the past four years, including 15 new tenure-system faculty members for 2019-2020. This represents the largetst expansion of MSU College of Engineering faculty in a generation.

Many have appointments in multiple research programs, departments or colleges; with a strong emphasis on transdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving and innovation.

Below are bios and short summaries of the impact our newest members are expected to make as part of the MSU College of Engineering faculty

New academic leadership

Neeraj Buch was named Chairperson of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, in November. He had served as Interim Chair since February.

Amanda Idema was named Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies in November. She had served as the interim Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies since February and was Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs since July 2015.

Abdol-Hossein Esfahanian was named Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in December 2019. He served as Interim Chair since August 2017.
