Todd W. Dishman (BS MECH EGR ’02) has been named a 2017 “Up & Coming Lawyer” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

Dishman is an intellectual property attorney for Brooks Kushman P.C. in Southfield.

This award recognizes 30 honorees in Michigan’s legal community who are establishing a name for themselves; go above and beyond and display the ambition, drive, determination and accomplishments that set them apart among their peers — in their first 10 years in practice.

Michigan Lawyers Weekly will recognize the 2017 Up & Coming Lawyers at an awards luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at the Detroit Marriott in Troy.

He was recognized as a 2017 “Up & Coming Lawyer” for his leadership within the legal community, and his commitment to client service and educating the next generation of patent attorneys. In addition to his work in the legal and local community, Dishman is an adjunct professor of patent law at the University of Detroit Mercy. He volunteers with the Wolverine Bar Association Michigan Bar Exam summer prep course. Dishman is also an effective mentor within Brooks Kushman, working with several associates to ensure they are best prepared to accomplish targeted goals.

Dishman joined the firm after serving as in-house patent counsel for General Motors. At Brooks Kushman, he focuses his practice on patent prosecution and litigation matters in mechanical and electromechanical arts. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Dishman worked for Ford Motor Company for 10 years as a design engineer for body systems, body structures, closures, sealing, and electromechanical hardware, and is a named inventor for several patented innovations related to body closures and sealing.

Dishman has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MSU and a juris doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy, where he graduated magna cum laude.
