Lorenzo M. Smith

Lorenzo M. Smith (PhD Engineering Mechanics ’99) has been appointed dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University at Sacramento, effective Aug. 1, 2014.

He had been serving as associate dean and professor at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

Smith joined Oakland University’s faculty in 2000 and since has won teaching awards and served as the principal investigator on multimillion-dollar research projects. His experience includes a prolific scholarly record and extensive program management experience.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University. He earned his doctorate in engineering mechanics from Michigan State University.
