Longtime auto executive Larry Denton (BS CIV EGR ’72) has joined Dearborn-based Ghafari Associates, it was announced Aug. 19.
Denton, 65, will serve as the president of the architectural firm's process group.
Denton previously served as president of the Troy-based North American headquarters for Nobel Automotive Group, a subsidiary of Bursa, Turkey-based Orhan Holding S.A. He was hired by Nobel in 2010.
Prior to that, he was chairman, CEO and president of Dura Automotive System, leading the company through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 20 months. He left Dura in 2008 and launched Denton Consulting Inc. in 2009.
From 1996 to 2002, Denton was president of Dow Automotive. He spent 24 years in various senior management positions at the Ford Motor Company.
Denton is board chairman at the Detroit-based New Common School Foundation, a senior board member of Ohio-based Auto Temp Inc., and a board member of Detroit-based Cornerstone Charter Schools. His other service through the years included chairman of the board for Troy-based Original Equipment Suppliers Association and a board member for the Detroit Economic Club and Flint's Kettering University.
He received a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University.
