John Loehr (BS ELEC EGR '87) has joined the global consulting firm AlixPartners as a managing director in the firm’s global automotive and industrial practice. He will work from AlixPartners’ Chicago office.
He brings almost 30 years of experience in automotive, heavy-vehicle, industrial, electronics, distribution, and related industries. For the past five years, he was a partner at the consulting firm McKinsey & Co. For 14 years prior to that he was with the consulting firm Booz & Co., most recently as a partner in that firm’s engineered products and services practice and global leader of its innovation practice.
From 1991 to 2000, he held senior positions at the U.S. Air Force Laboratory, overseeing scientific research into electronic and optoelectronic devices such as semiconductor lasers, optical detectors, and electro-optic modulators.
Loehr received a PhD in electrical engineering (with a specialty in semiconductor lasers) and master’s degrees in physics and electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University in 1987, where he was also a member of the Honors College.
He is the author of several consulting-oriented papers, many refereed scientific journal articles, and the book “Physics of Strained Quantum Well Lasers.”
