A graduate of the MSU College of Engineering has been appointed Oakland County’s newest representative to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department’s Board of Water Commissioners.
Jody Caldwell (BS CIV EGR '98) and (MS CIV EGR '99) succeeds J. Bryan Williams, officials announced Sept. 29.
As the Oakland County water resources commissioner’s chief engineer, Caldwell is responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of several public water supply systems in the county. He also provides management and strategic direction for the county department’s Planning and Information Systems Divisions.
“Jody is smart, energetic, and highly respected within this community and I know he will do a terrific job for the water customers of Oakland County and indeed the entire region,” said Jim Nash, the county’s water resources commissioner.
In his tenure with Oakland County, Caldwell has worked extensively with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department and co-chairs both its water technical advisory committee and sewer steering committee.
He also serves as secretary for the North Oakland County Water Authority and represents the city of Pontiac on the authority.
Caldwell has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Michigan State University.
“As a region, it is very important that we work together for the best interests of all customers and I am honored for this appointment during this critical and historical transition,” said Caldwell.
The DWSD Board of Water Commissioners’ seven members oversee the Detroit water department’s operations, management and major contracts, and set rates for water and sewer services.
The board has four members from the city of Detroit, and one member each nominated by the Wayne County executive, the Oakland County water resources commissioner and the Macomb County public works commissioner.
