Jason Gutting (BS Civ Egr '95) was awarded the 2014 Michigan Department of Transportation Director’s Award — the

department’s highest honor for outstanding service.

MDOT established the annual award more than 20 years ago to recognize employees who exhibit leadership and exemplary public service.

“While I am proud of our entire workforce, Director’s Award recipients like Jason Gutting stand out because they are nominated by their peers for this special recognition,” said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle.

Gutting was honored in the professional, supervisor category. As MDOT’s construction operations manager, he worked with the Federal Highway Administration, the Michigan Infrastructure Transportation Association, and MDOT staff to revise the department’s special provision for prompt payment process, to quickly revise it in time for the construction season while making sure the needs of all the agencies involved were met.

He also created MDOT’s statewide alignment construction team to link MDOT’s regions, transportation service centers and construction field services division in Lansing.

The team, which Gutting has led for two years, is responsible for ensuring consistency and uniformity in construction administration practices across the state, including the local agency construction program.

Gutting is a licensed professional engineer. He lives in Okemos, Mich.
