Sumcad joined OnStar in 2002 as an Enterprise Systems Engineer in Troy. In 2006, he transitioned to OnStar IT as a business analyst. In 2008, he became a Senior IT Analyst and shortly thereafter, an IT operations manager until July 2015.

He received a bachelor's degree electrical engineering from Michigan State University in 1999 and later earned an MBA from Wayne State University.  

Sumcad has submitted nearly 100 inventions through GM’s intellectual property process. He has been issued more than 35 combined patents and publications for GM while also mentoring others on the patent submission process.

He has been frequently awarded OnStar / GCCX Awards (2004-2007, 2010-2012, and 2014-2016).  He also received GM IT CIO Awards in 2011 and 2013.

Sumcad is a member of GM HIT, a GM diversity initiative. He is an advocate for cultural and language awareness participating in Diwali celebrations and sharing multiple language phrases for his team during daily meetings.

For his department, he has coordinated and facilitated large department events such as OnStar Advisor Call Monitoring, Urban Active demos, and Detroit Hamtramck Assembly plant tours. 

He is a yearly contributor since 2014 to the American Lung Association as he helps lead a GM / OnStar team for the Renaissance Center Fight for Clean Air stair climb.  He is also provides yearly support for holiday charities at Grace Centers of Hope, St. Jude's, and the American Humane Society.
