Michael is from Escanaba, Michigan, in the state’s rural Upper Peninsula. At Michigan State University, he pursues a bachelor’s degree in Biosystems Engineering, a Biomedical Engineering concentration, and a Minor in Mathematics with an anticipated graduation of May 2022. Core interests of Michael’s include protein engineering and the central dogma of modern biology as they pertain to major health quandaries including Alzheimer’s disease (in humans) and Chronic Wasting Disease (in White-Tailed Deer), among others. At the Food and Health Engineering Laboratory, Michael currently interrogates the involvement of Vitamin D in human neurological development and function by analyzing the effects of its deficiency in diet. Michael hopes to continue his ambitions in research with graduate-level study.
