Project Overview

Sparty is Michigan State University’s active mascot for sporting events and various other events. During the summer months, the temperature inside Sparty can reach well above the ambient temperature. Currently there is no cooling system inside Sparty, which can lead to serious problems for the students portraying Sparty. The Alumni Association has looked into cooling systems, however rejected them for various reasons. The sound and added weight makes adding a fan ill advisable, while cold pack vests freeze the student when they first become Sparty instead of keeping them cool as the suit becomes warmer. The goal of the project is to design a cooling system for the Spartan mascot.
