Project Overview

Overview:

As technology keeps improving, there are many possibilities to save consumers time by offering shortcuts while using modern appliances. In our project, we are trying to eliminate significant, manual user input while cooking with microwave ovens. The food ready to be cooked is simply scanned and placed inside the microwave. Press the start button, and the food will cook according to the package directions. The microwave will feature a user interface, which will display or accept any additional instructions on the display screen if necessary.

The project will advance product identifying technologies used in modern appliances. It will use a combination of software algorithms and databases to overcome the inconsistencies between different microwave models and determine the correct power level and time to be set for cooking many food types. The intelligent design developed during this project may be applied to other household appliances such as washing machines, dryers, stoves, and ovens. To allow for easy expandability and versatility, the scanner will be a separate module from the microwave and sold as an add-on. This will also expand the targeted market from new home buyers and those buying replacements for broken appliances to consumers who would like to upgrade appliance as well.
