Design-Team Progress Reports-Purpose and Expectations
Prepared by: P. David Fisher and Diane T. Rover
Purpose
The first set of design-team oral progress reports have several purposes.
- Preparing for the first oral progress report will bring the team together and force it to focus on its mission.
- Preparing for the first oral progress report will force the team to think about how it can fulfill its mission.
- Problems and concerns identified by individual design teams can be addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
Expectations
- Presentation Format
- Each design team will have 15 minutes for their formal presentations.
- The overhead projector or video projector should be used for visual displays.
- Accompanying the presentation should be handouts for the class.
- The presentation has to involve at least two different members from the design team. Team Managers will be keeping track of who presents throughout the term.
Content
The presentation should begin by identifying the name of the design team and by introducing each design-team member.
The design-team's mission should be concisely stated.
Preliminary design-team's plans for fulfilling its mission should be presented. These plans should include:
- Identification of individual tasks that need to be completed in order to fulfill the design-team's mission.
- The nature of the deliverables and expected dates for submitting these deliverables.
The design team should identify any problems or concerns that they might have. These would typically relate to potential impediments for them to fulfill the design-team's mission.
Questions and Answers
After the formal presentation, there will be time for a couple of questions. One of these questions might come from the faculty; however, students are encouraged to ask questions.
