Pavement and Geotechnical Engineering courses
The academic program provides a fundamental background in pavement analysis and design for new and existing pavements, Hot-mix asphalt (HMA) and Portland cement concrete (PCC) material characterization needed for the state-of-the-art mechanistic-empirical pavement analysis and design, management of large road networks and strategy analysis for road maintenance, preservation and rehabilitation treatments under constrained resources. Besides, the program covers practical design applications and soil behaviors under load in geotechnical engineering. The program also emphasizes the use of recycled materials in road construction to encourage more sustainable and cost-effective solutions. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in interdisciplinary coursework from other units across MSU, including probability and statistics, mechanical engineering, material science, construction management, and computational mathematics, science, and engineering.
