Dr. Chatzistavrou is an Assistant Professor in the department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science with research interest on biomaterials and tissue engineering.Her expertise is on sol-gel derived bioactive glasses and glass-ceramics with antibacterial properties for combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. She focused her interest on solid state physics and material science, after obtaining a comprehensive background in physics. She did her Master´s degree and PhD studies in the Department of Physics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. After her graduation, she was awarded some of the most prestigious fellowships for individual young scientists in Europe and Japan. This fellowship gave her the opportunity to work as a postdoctoral researcher in some of the top departments and institutions in Material Science worldwide: Imperial College, UK, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan. Prior to joining MSU in 2017, she was appointed as a REsearch Fellow in the School of Dentistry at the University of Michigan. Dr.Chatzistavrou has published more than 40 peer-review papers, co-author four book chapters and deliver more than 30 presentations both oral and poster in international conferences
