Dr. Steven Safferman - 2019 MSU Honors College Award for Distinguished Contributions to Honors Students.

We just received official word from Dean Jackson-Elmore that Dr. Steve Safferman will be receiving the 2019 MSU Honors College Award for Distinguished Contributions to Honors Students.

Please note that this is a singular award, going annually to one individual at MSU who exemplifies significant and distinguished contributions to Honors Students.

Steve is an outstanding and deserving awardee. If you were not already aware (just as some examples), Steve has led/co-led Honors Research Seminars for 9 of the last 13 years (mentoring over 75 students from majors across campus), created a unique Honors Option laboratory experience in BE 230, mentored over 14 Professorial Assistants (several who have won UURAF or ESPP awards), and has served several years on the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship Selection Committee. Steve’s nomination was supported by letters from 7 current and former BE undergraduates. One of those students acknowledged Dr. Safferman for “…inspiring people to not only become better scientists but to become better people.” A graduating senior wrote that Dr. Safferman’s H-Option in BE 230 was “…the most influential and well-run Honors Option of my undergraduate time.”

The award will be formally presented at the Honors College Convocation, Tuesday, Aug 27, 2019, 3:00 p.m. (venue TBA).

On behalf of your colleagues and students… CONGRATULATIONS Dr. Safferman!
