Anaerobic Digester

You are here

Four 300 L pilot digester systems have been running for 18 months.  The digesters are fed a combination of dairy manure and glycerine to study the effects of the addition of a byproduct of biodiesel production on the anaerobic digestion process.  The digesters are fed glycerine in different amounts ranging from 37.5 g/day to 300 g/day.

Weekly testing is done on the digestate for the following characteristics:

  • pH
  • Electrical conductivity (EC)
  • Total solids (TS) & volatile solids (VS)
  • Chemical oxygen demand (COD)
  • Volatile fatty acids (VFA)
