John Foss has been elected a fellow by APS.

John Foss, professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been named a fellow of the American Physical Society for his outstanding contributions to physics.
Foss was elected to the 2013 class of American Physical Society Fellows at its September board meeting, upon the recommendation of the Division of Fluid Dynamics.
Each year, elected APS Fellows number no more than one-half of one percent of the APS membership. Fellowship is a distinct honor signifying recognition by one's professional peers for exceptional contributions to the physics enterprise; outstanding physics research, important applications of physics, leadership in or service to physics, or significant contributions to physics education.

“For fundamental experimentation of complex flows, novel surface topology analyses and for ground-breaking vorticity measurements.”
Foss has been a faculty member at Michigan State since 1964. His academic interests include analytical experimentation (determination of governing phenomena using flow field measurements), general fluid mechanics, turbulent shear flows, vorticity measurements, and automotive applications. He earned BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University.
