Vedi is an undergraduate student studying mechanical engineering, with a biomedical concentration, as a major, while studying computer science for a minor. Currently working on using magnetic nano-particles to concentrate different bacteria within food matrices; specifically Listeria, E-Coli, and Salmonella. The experiment involves concentrating and extracting the bacteria and separating it using magnetic nano-particles. This process has shown to increase the concentration factor of Listeria to up to 8 times the original amount. This study will allow a more efficient and cost effective method for the concentration of food pathogens helping reduce the spread of food borne pathogens and improving the early detection process.
