What do Civil & Environmental Engineers do?
One of the oldest and largest branches of engineering is civil engineering. Without civil engineers our society would not be the way it is today. Civil engineering involves structures such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, roads and railways. Recall the Great Wall of China for example, it is considered one of civil engineering's greatest accomplishments, stretching more than 6,000 miles long!
The planning, designing, and supervision of construction of high-rise buildings, airports, water treatment centers, and sanitation plants is all done by civil engineers. Eventually, it will be civil engineers who make it possible for humans to live on Mars! Careers are available in the areas of government, consulting, construction, research, and education.
