Background Anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste biomass is part of an integrated waste management that  protects human health and the environment from agricultural wastes and convert these wastes to resources.  The renewable resources in turn will provide a revenue stream to offset the operation and cost of the digester and  provide additional revenue to the farm.
  Objective

The Michigan State University Anaerobic Digestion Research and Education Center (MSU ADRE Center) comprehensively researches, develops, evaluates, and educates stakeholders on integrated anaerobic digestion systems, with an emphasis on cost effective and efficient technologies for small and medium sized dairy farms.

  Functions
  • Theoretical modeling

  • Bioassay evaluation and lab and bench-scale research

  • Anaerobic digester and algae facility at the MSU Dairy Farm

  • Pilot and commercial scale research at Green Meadow Farms

     and Scenic View Dairy

  • Feedstock Blending
