The National Science Fundation (NSF) has agreed to partially support U.S. participation in the Sixth International Conference on Inverse Problems in Engineering (ICIPE 2008), which will be held in Dourdan, France, on June 15–19, 2008. The funds (NSF grant CBET-0814552 through the Chemical and Transport Systems program) will be awarded to selected ICIPE participants from U.S. institutions via the application procdure below. Profs Guy Raguin (PI) and Neil Wright (Co-PI) from Michigan State University will administer the award process.

The purpose of these awards is to enable U.S. researchers to become more engaged in this field, which is being led by researchers from outside the U.S. The broader impacts of the conference include support for a number of tudents, junior faculty, females, and researchers from under-represented groups to attend this meeting. A key goal of the conference is to enhance international collaboration opportunities.

Award:

The NSF funds provide for 12 individual awards, each of which consists of $800 to be used towards participation to the ICIPE 2008 (i.e., travel, conference registration, lodging, meals).

The mechanism of reimbursement will be to have the awardee's home institution send an $800 invoice to the staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University and photocopies of receipts of conference-related expenses for an amount equal to or greater than $800 (e.g., conference registration invoice, receipt for airfare using a U.S. carrier) after the conference.

Application:

To apply, you will need to meet the eligibility criterion and provide the necessary documents listed below:

  • Eligibility: you are currently a graduate student, post-doctoral researcher, or faculty member at a university or research institution located in the United States of America (you need not be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident).

  • Documents to provide before June 14, 2008 (11:59 PM, U.S. Eastern Time, Extended Deadline): the award will be decided based upon the following documents:

    1. Name, complete institutional address, and email address of applicant.

    2. Title, list of authors and abstract of the paper accepted at the ICIPE 2008 and Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS). You may send either the 2-page abstract that was submitted in January or the 1-paragraph abstract submitted as part of your revised manuscript for JPCS.

    3. Copy of your ICIPE receipt of participation fees.

    4. One-page document with a brief professional biography of the applicant and a few lines on how this award would help in your participation to the ICIPE 2008.

Please send your documents in pdf format to Profs Guy Raguin and Neil Wright by clicking on the link below:
