Research Interests:

Research interests in our group generally involve water quality and quantity issues. Recent research addressed questions involving the fate and transport of chemical and biological agents in different hydrologic units in the Great Lakes region (watersheds, rivers and streams, lakes and groundwater). A common unifying thread in all our activities is the development and application of coupled (physical-chemical-biological) models and integration of laboratory and field-scale observations with modeling. Often the goal is to learn about key processes and parameters and how they change across scales or with time.

Facilities:

Our group is equipped with a Turner 10-AU Field Fluorometer (with optical filters for Flourescein, Rhodamine WT and Ammonium), a 2.0 MHz Nortek Aquadopp Current Profiler for shallow environments, a 1200 kHz RD Instruments Rio Grande Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) equipped with an OceanScience Riverboat for realtime deployments (river work), a 600 kHz TRDI Workhorse Monitor ADCP for measuring currents and waves (suitable for lake research / bottom deployments), NexSens Micro-T temperature loggers and mooring systems, Sontek Doppler Velocimeters (ADV), a 16 MHz MicroADV ideal for laboratory flume measurements, temperature and pressure transducers, data loggers, several flumes suitable for sediment transport studies, a Campbell OBS-3A turbidity and temperature monitoring system, Price AA current meters, GPS units (Magellan MobileMapper CX with sub-meter resolution and a Garmin unit), depth sounders, high-resolution digital cameras for aerial photography, several In-Situ (mini-TROLL) level loggers, a Turner (SCUFA) submersible flourometer for Rhodamine-WT, a number of workstations (with dual quad-core processors) and software packages (IDL, MATLAB, MAPLE, Tecplot, Intel Fortran and C++ compilers with IMSL and Math kernel libraries, ArcGIS, Systat, Sigmaplot, GMS, SMS etc), and two small boats for field work.
