Reading

I am one of those who believe that a good book in my hand and nothing else to do is somewhere amazingly close to what heaven would be like. I read just about anything and everything, however as with any other guy who does reading on the side, I too have my personal genres.

Fiction

This is the best of the lot, no fuss, no big talk, just pure, down to earth entertainment with some sex and violence to boot. I really am an unabashed fan of pure unadulterated (talk about choice of words :-) ) fiction. My favorite author in this category is John Grisham (with his beautiful law stories). I have read every book he has written so far. My personal favorite is "The Firm" but most of his work (except for the last but one, "The Painted House") are amazing. In the Painted House I think he tried to stray from his niche and made a mess of it... however not to worry, the one that came afterwards, "The summons" quite makes up, though I have to say I think he is getting rusty. So John, if you are reading this (yeah rite!!! high hopes), come up with something better.

A close contender to Grisham is Forsyth. This guy is just awesome. His attention to detail will leave you open mouthed in wonder, where others say " He picked up his gun", Forsyth will tell you where he picked it up from, whether the drawer was made of wood or was it a metal desk, was the desk on a carpeted floor, what was the color of the carpet and why  and so on and so forth. It is amazing how engrossed I can get in his novels. I have read every Forsyth there is too. I would rate his "Day of the Jackal" as the best of the lot.

When talking about Forsyth, I can never leave McLean behind. Allistair McLean is another one of my all time favorites. His books have an amazing quality to them that sets him apart from everyone else. A lot of his books have been made into VERY famous movies. I would unhesitatingly rate "Guns of Naverone" as his best. I used to run a personal competition between Forsyth and McLean when I was younger, for each book of one I simply HAD to read one book of the other. Anyways I think Forsyth has more books by the way.

Humor

I love reading humor, This is my all time favorite genre. Nothing compares to reading a book and just laughing. The best authors I have read in this category include, Douglas Adams. I salute him. I think he is God's gift to mankind. I believe in him and I believe he is Jesus Christ reborn (ok NOW do u get any idea as to how much I love humor ? ) Anyways others include Anurag Mathur "The inscrutable Americans", I can't remember when was the last time I laughed so much and Scott Adams. (I also believe in the Dogbert's ruling clan)

Self Help

Quite surprisingly, I am one of those people who read a lot of self help books, more as a matter of fun rather than really to get any help out of them. :-) The BEST book I have read in this category is Roy Williams, " How to gain an extra hour everyday" I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to manage time. A book I feel is oft over rated by people all over is Stephen Covey, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" I personally find it pretty bad...

..well that is that.. lemme go read something.. :-) more will come here soon..
