Computer Program Errors
-
GAMMAFIT.xls - There are no known errors in the programming, however the
instructions say that the natural logarithm is used in the formula for
vapor pressure. This is incorrect. The common logarithm is used.
-
ESD.EXE - There are some deficiencies in generating initial guesses, which
are resolved in the newer version placed on the ftp server in the /computer/esd
directory. The archived (zipped) files have not been updated.
Content Errors
-
page 20, Example 1.6, second line should reference Figure 1.6.
-
page 32, line above figure should reference Fig 2.4.
-
page 34, line above figure should reference Fig 2.5.
-
page 36, the statement that Cp is approxmiately equal to Cv for condensed
phases is not general. (It is OK for water, but not many liquid hydrocarbons).
-
page 49, line above Eqn 2.23 should read "...process with
heat transfer". The arrow through dQ in Eqn 2.23 should be eliminated.
-
page 73, above the first equation it reads "..., the energy balance simplifies",
it should read " ..., the entropy balance simplifies".
-
page 74, last line, the answer -518 J should be -519 J.
-
page 88, instead if 298*15 in the equation, it should be 298.15.
-
page 131, the seventh line should read:
The isothermal compressibility = -1/V*(dV/dP)T = 1/rho*(drho/dP)T
is infinite and its reciprocal is zero at the critical point.
-
page 155, problem 6.13, definition of g(r) is restricted to r > sigma,
where b=Pi*Na*sigma^3/6; ...Evaluate the expression at rho*Na*sigma^3=0.6
-
page 155, problem 6.14, should be - F*b*rho not + F*b*rho
-
page 176, problem 7.19, definition of g(r) is restricted to r > sigma,
g(r) = 0 for r < sigma
-
page 203, Figure 9.1 was redrawn in this edition which changed the labels
corresponding to liquid and vapor. The line segment formula below Eqn 9.1
should be de/ce and the line segment formula below Eqn 9.2 should be cd/ce.
-
page 227, Eqn 10.12, in the right-most expression, the superscript should
be ig. The margin note should end ....useful for EOSs of the form
Z(T,P).
-
page 228, Eqn 10.16, in the right-most expression, the superscript should
be ig.
-
page 232, Eqn 10.26, in the second box, the derivative should be w.r.t
n2 with n1 held constant.
-
page 242, P10.6, part a), answer should be (P=0.078 MPa, yp=
0.83), answer to b) is more precise as (kij=0.117,
0.112 MPa)
-
page 242, P10.8, answer ln(phihatk)=4(c-2[sum over i]xi*cik)ln(1-b*rho)+bk*(Z-1)/b-lnZ
-
page 254, Example 11.5. First line of solution should reference Appendix
G.
-
page 255, 3rd line below water and IPA structure should reference Appendix
B.
-
page 290, problem 11.4, the component vapor pressures should be switched
(EtOH has the higher vapor pressure).
-
page 305, problem 12.1, the temperature is not given, 298 K may be used.(The
values of G1 and G2 are very small so the temperature
doesn't make much difference). In future printings, we will use G1/RT=0.1
and G2/RT=0.3.
-
page 330, Equation 14.8, the H and S are reversed, the equation should
read Delta S = (Delta H)/(T).
-
page 343, example 15.4, part a): eqn above last line of part a) should
be 0.242/P(....)=(.....)^2; part c): should start 1/P = ... = 6.59
=> P=1/6.59 bars. The pressure must be much LOWER...
-
page 367, second sentence should read " For example, common donors
are benzene rings....."
-
page 375, Eqn 16.31 and equations at bottom of page. All the fugacity coeffiecients
should have carets above.
-
page 419/420. Each place that P/(rho*k*T) appears it should be P/(rho*R*T).
Also in the line after C-25, the coefficient should be 1/6, giving eta
= pi*sigma(3)*N(A)*rho/6. The first equation line after "Solution" in the
middle of the page should be exp(-u/kT) = exp(eps/kT)*H(r-sigma)-[exp(eps/kT)-1]*H(r-1.5sigma)
-
page 420, example D-2, middle of page, definition of g(r) is restricted
to r > sigma, g(r) = 0 for r < sigma
-
page 440, table at bottom of page, the index numbers for butane
and isobutane are switched. The heats and Gibbs energies of formation ARE
CORRECT as given. n-butane should be 4, i-butane should be
5.
Spelling, Punctuation, etc.
-
page 81, heading "CHARTS INCLUDING ENTROPY" should be a new section heading.
-
page 144, second to last line, '... also e written...', should be '...
also be written ...' .
-
page 204, Eqn 9.6, the second equivalence symbol should not be subscript.
-
page 214, last paragraph, should read "The isothermal flash equations are
easily found by modifying the balances used in the development of the the
lever rule in Section 9.1. If z is the feed composition and L/F is the
liquid to feed ratio, then the vapor to feed ratio is V/F = 1 - L/F, ..."
-
page 375, Section 16.6 first sentence. "soltuions" should be "solutions".
-
page 415, first bold heading, Algebraric should be Algebraic
-
page 442, table at top, last two rows, the correct spelling is "sulfide".
