Key Expertise: Leachate recirculation or liquid
injection systems for landfills; electrochemical cleanup of contaminated
ground water; saturated and unsaturated soil testing; vadose zone modeling
and field-scale geoenvironmental testing; electronic methods for rapid
soil classification; and contaminated sediement cleanup.
Majority of Dr. Khire's projects are field-based and have lab and computer
modeling components. His students get "hands on" experience
on geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering problems and solutions.
Prof. Khire believes that the use of state-of-the-art experimental techniques
coupled with data interpretation and computer modeling is critical for
professional success.
Dr. Khire's research is financially supported by the National Science
Foundation, Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Research &
Education Foundation (EREF), and Waste Management, Inc. He has about
fifteen years of experience as a geoenvironmental expert in the United
States, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
