Abstract
The accuracy of a parallel direct integration method proposed earlier by
the authors (Harichandran and Ye 1993) is examined. The algorithm is
developed using matrix splitting and is of the predictor-multicorrector
type. It is demonstrated that as long as sufficient corrections are
performed, the accuracy of the parallel algorithm is similar to that of
the Wilson q method, on which it is based. For good accuracy, the time
step must be a fraction of the period of the highest significant mode,
but since it appears to be unconditionally stable, the time step is not
restricted by the period of the highest vibration mode of the structure.
