Abstract
The effect of the spatial variation of strong ground motion should be
considered in the analysis and design of large structures such as
bridges, lifelines, dams, etc. The stochastic response of a simple model
of an indeterminate bridge, a two-span beam, due to correlated support
excitations resulting from spatially varying seismic ground motions is
analyzed herein. The ground motion model is based on the analysis of
recordings made by the SMART-1 seismograph array. Different types of
support motion correlations are considered. The beam is modeled by
finite elements and the displacement and curvature responses are
computed.
